Ningxia Red Facts(Organic, Made with Whole Squished Berries, Sweetened with Agave and it has a 4:1 Carb to Protein Ratio!)
Goji Berry = Wolfberry = Ningxia Red
Study shows Goji Berries improves energy and happiness
Consuming
goji berry juice for two weeks increases feelings of general well-being
and improves gastrointestinal functions, according to a new
industry-sponsored clinical trial.
When it comes to antioxidant drinks there are so many choices today. How do you choose?
For me, as a mom, I want to know these three things:
1. How close is it to WHOLE food?
The main ingredient in Ningxia Red are whole squished Wolfberries, also
known as Goji Berries (Whole foods assimilate in the body best.) Look
at the ingredients on other drinks. First of all they are taken apart
from the whole and put back together—just like vitamins. That’s OK
because we know that it is important to take vitamins. They don’t
assimilate as well as whole foods, but we need to do something, right?
For my family, the closer I can stay to whole foods, I know the better,
so our choice is Ningxia Red.
2. What is it sweetened with?
Agave is from the same family as an aloe plant. It’s properties are
very healing. At the same time, they are very sweet, BUT it has a LOW
glycemic index. It keeps the blood sugar level which is HUGE!
Important for diabetics, athletes, people wanting to maintain or loose
weight, CHILDREN, keeping cravings away, etc. If you can get nutrients
from whole food it is always better. Vitamins are a second choice or
supplement.
3. IS IT ORGANIC?
This is HUGE for me as a mom. Fruit is the most highly sprayed plant
on earth. Especially the dark berries. The organic seal gives me
comfort that I’m not poisoning my children or myself. The cumulative
effects of pesticides is devastating over time.
There is a 4th reason for all you athletes out there!
Ningxia Red has a 4:1 ratio of Carbohydrates to Proteins. This helps feed the muscles for endurance and it helps with recovery so no sore muscles.
Carbohydrate Plus Protein Speeds Recovery
Research shows that combining protein with carbohydrate in the two
hours after exercise nearly doubles the insulin response, which results
in more stored glycogen. The optimal carbohydrate to protein ratio for
this effect is 4:1 (four grams of carbohydrate for every one gram of
protein). Eating more protein than that, however, has a negative impact
because it slows rehydration and glycogen replenishment.
One study found that athletes who refueled with carbohydrate and
protein had 100 percent greater muscle glycogen stores than those who
only ate carbohydrate. Insulin was also highest in those who consumed a
carbohydrate and protein drink.
Protein Needs After Exercise
Consuming protein has other important uses after exercise. Protein
provides the amino acids necessary to rebuild muscle tissue that is
damaged during intense, prolonged exercise. It can also increase the
absorption of water from the intestines and improve muscle hydration.
The amino acids in protein can also stimulate the immune system, making
you more resistant to colds and other infections.
Bottom Line
If you are looking for the best way to refuel your body after long,
strenuous endurance exercise, a 4:1 combo of carbohydrate and protein
seems to be your best choice. While solid foods can work just as well
as a sports drink, a drink may be easier to digest make it easier to
get the right ratio and meet the 2-hour window.

Most juices have a higher glycemic index than the fruits from which they are
derived. NingXia Red has been extensively tested and found to be low glycemic,
with the same low score, 11, as agave syrup.
1 You
might wonder how that is possible with all the sugars found
in wolfberries. Remember that NingXia Red contains WHOLE wolfberries—skin,
seeds, pulp and all. The fiber in wolfberries keeps
the sugars from "spiking" in
the blood, making NingXia Red a healthy choice even for diabetics. You will notice
that there are no "junk juices" such as apple, pear or white grape in the list of ingredients —that
is because they have no balancing fiber (and no essential sugars either).
Glycemic Response of Various Liquid Supplements

Comparisons with other juices show that NingXia Red has a gentle influence on
blood sugar levels—not the radical peaks and crashes cause by normal
fruit-based juices. NingXia Red's low glycemic impact is yet another demonstration
of its healthfulness.
